The Snake Hunter in Pakistan

The Snake Hunter in Pakistan

Introduction

In 2014, I travelled to Pakistan to learn about differnt types of endemic snakes of Pakistan. There I trained with Muhammad Imran (Imran Hunter) who taught me about handling monocled cobras.

Pakistan is a extremely interesting place with amazing food, historical sites and wonderful people. As you can see from the photos, I dressed up in traditional Pakistani outfits as I was training to be a Pakistan local snake catcher.

Snakes of Pakistan

Pakistan has a wide variety of different snakes (around 72) different species. These include cobras, kraits, vipers, sea snakes and more. Due to Pakistan being a developing nation, unfortunately there is a significant amount of death from snake bites due to people not having access to medical treatment or otherwise, not knowing what to do if bitten.

Much work needs to be done in the area of access to help rural and impoverished areas of Pakistan have access to such treatment and education.

Pakistan Overall

I really enjoyed my time in Pakistan. As it's been over 12 years, my plan is to return to Pakistan and learn about snakes and do filming of endemic snakes of Pakistan.
