Bangkok August 2026

Mark visited Thailand in July 2026 where he was invited by Rotary Bangkok, Siam Serpentarium and The Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute (QSMI) and by Pinyo the Snake Wrangler to visit. In Mark’s 5 day adventure to Thailand was action packed including catching snakes in Bangkok, educating the volunteer fire fighters about how to catch snakes of Thailand. The Thai people were extremely friendly and Mark had an incredible adventure.

Rotary Bangkok

Mark was invited to attend Rotary Bangkok to give a speech about how snake bites are a preventable tropical disease in South East Asia due to issues of lack of education about snakes, improper health seeking behaviours and lack of antivenom. Mark also spoke about his life as a snake catcher and answered general questions about snakes. The speech was very well received and there was a lot of focus on how Rotary of Diamond Creek and Bankok can continue to work together in future.

Good Shepherd Sisters Thailand

GOOD SHEPHERD SISTERS

Mark visited Good Shepherd Sisters Din Dang to meet sister Louise. This wonderful organization works with women who are victims of family violence and otherwise prevents human trafficking. There is a child care center which allows mother’s to learn and work to make a living. Mark brought material aid for the orphanage on several occasions. The work done here by Sister Louise is incredible and Mark strongly recommends if you visit Thailand, to visit and contribute to this organization.

Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute (QSMI)

​Mark was invited to the QSMI where he was given a personal tour by Dr Panathi of the entire facility to show how snakes were milked for venom, how the venom is used and what research can be done with respect to the venom. The institute also has many snakes on display to see, and public education for members of the public. The Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute is the leader in South East Asia for antivenom production and is an example for other nations in South East Asia to duplicate in due course.

Siam Serpentarium

Mark was invited to the Siam Serpentarium to meet the curator named Beem of the facility. There he was given a personalised tour to see all the information about snakes and further got to go behind the scenes where he was taught about and handled monocled cobras, a range of vipers as well as other rarer snakes not typically known about in Thailand. This was an incredible privilege and honour and I’m so grateful to Beem and the team.

Siam Serpentarium - Rarer Snakes of Thailand

Mark went behind the scenes with Beem to see some of the less common snakes of Thailand at the Snake Serpentarium in Bangkok. There in the laboratory we saw vipers and saw different rarer water snakes in Thailand. It is important to understand that all actoins by people in nature can cause big problems for the endemic animals of any country. The amazing work at Siam Serpentarium can help maintain awareness of these animals.

Monocled Cobras of Bangkok

Thailand has beautiful Monocled Cobras. Mark The Snake Hunter went behind the scenes at the Siam Serpentarium. There Mark held different coloured but very large monocled cobras of Thailand. Some tried to bite him, others gave the typical cobra ‘hooded’ behaviour. The cobras were incredibly well looked after and used to help research more about snake behaviour. Visitors of the serpentarium got to see the cobras being held at the window as we filmed the incredible interaction. A big thank you to Beem and the team again!

Training Bangkok Volunteer Firefighters

​Mark teamed up with Pinyo the Snake Wrangler, Thailand’s premier snake catcher who works on behalf of the fire department. In Thailand, the fire department are responsible for snake catching which is something that is very different from Australia. Mark was offered to help teach the course in parts with Pinyo and he demonstrated handling monocled cobras, reticulated phytons and other animals. It was an incredible privilege to teach and work with the incredible Pinyo.

Mark The Snake Hunter of Australia interviewed Pinyo the Snake Wrangler of Bangkok. Pinyo discussed snake behaviour and how to keep safe from snakes and why snakes bite. Often people misinterpret snake behaviour. If you're a foreigner wanting to visit Thailand and need to learn about what to do if you see a snake and how to avoid snake bites, then watching this video is a must for you!

Snake Catching Bangkok

Pinyo took Mark out to catch snakes in Bangkok with the fire department. We caught a reticulated python that was in someone’s home. Afterwards we had access to different snakes and Pinyo was training Mark on different snake handling techniques specific to cobras in South East Asia. It was an incredible learning experience and Mark was incredibly grateful for all opportunities. Overall, Thailand was an incredible learning experience.
